Is there anything my healthcare provider needs to know before I take the medication?

You should inform your doctor or healthcare provider if you suffer from the following:

• Vision or eye problems and disturbances, including retinitis pigmentosa, which is an inherited but rare disease of the eye;
• Kidney or liver diseases;
• Suffered a stroke;
• Have a history of heart problems, including heart attacks, angina or heart disease;
• Have low or high blood pressure;
• Are pregnant or attempted to get pregnant;
• Have any allergies or suffered unusual reactions to sildenafil, dyes, preservatives, foods and other medications;
• Are a breast-feeding mother.

How should this medication be taken?

The pills should be taken orally with water. You should only take one tablet per day and it should be taken about 60 minutes before any sexual activity. Only take the amount prescribed by your doctor.

If you believe that you have had too much of the medication, contact your nearest emergency room or poison control center.

Do not give this medication to anyone else as it is prescribed to you.

Is there anything that this medication can interact with?

You should not take Sildenafil if you take:

• Any nitrates including methscopolamine, dinitrate, isosrbide, nitroglycerin and monoitrate;
• Cisapride;
• Nitroprusside;
• Any other sildenadil medications.

There is a chance that some medications will interact with the tablets, including:

• Some medications to treat hypertension;
• Some medications to treat HIV and AIDS;
• Cimetidine;
• Rifampin;
• Some drugs used to treat yeast and fungal infections, including ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole and fluconazole;
• Erythromycin.

This is not a full list of all medications that can cause a problem with Sildenafil. You should talk to your provider about all the medications you taken, including any supplements, herbal medications or over-the-counter drugs. You should also talk about your alcohol limit, if you smoke and if you use any illegal drugs. Some of the items can stop the medication working correctly.

Is there anything I should look out for while taking Sildenafil?

You should contact your healthcare provider immediately if you notice any visual disturbances or changes. Stop if you experience blindness in one or both eyes.

If you suffer from a prolonged erection (lasting more than four hours) or it is painful, stop taking the medication and consult your doctor. There could be a serious problem that will cause permanent damage.

Refrain from any sexual activity if you have chest or arm pain or suffer from dizziness or nausea. Seek medical attention immediately.

This should not be used as a form of protection against any sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

Are there any side effects with the medication?

Some people may experience the following side effects:

• Flushing of the skin;
• Diarrhea;
• Indigestion;
• Headaches;
• Stuffy nose.

These side effects do not need immediate medical attention but you may want to talk to your doctor if they are bothersome or continue for a prolonged time.

The follow side effects need urgent medical attention:

• Any allergic reaction, including a rash, hive, itching of the skin or swelling of the lips, tongue or face;
• Problems with breathing;
• Problems with hearing;
• Visual disturbances or changes, including trouble telling the difference between blue and green;
• Increased or irregular heart rate;
• Chest pains;
• Prolonged erection (longer than four hours);
• Seizures.

How should my medication be stored?

Keep all medication out of children’s reach.

Store your medication at a temperature between 15C and 30C (59F and 86F). Discard all medication past its expiration date.
